MAIJA HAAVISTO
Helsinki born Maija is a journalist and writer with 6 novels, 5 non-fiction titles and a children's book in Finnish to her name. She was awarded a 'Commended' accolade in the 2017 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'The Banana Eclair' - which was included in the anthology Tasting Notes & other short stories. Maija was a finalist in the 2016 medical science-fiction contest held by the University of Glasgow.
VANESSA HORN
UK author and junior school teacher, Vanessa was awarded 'Highly Commended' accolade in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Paws in Time' - which was included in the anthology Last Call & other short stories. Vanessa gained a degree from the Royal College of Music, and enjoys playing flute and piano. With a growing list of writing successes, Vanessa's first book Eclectic Moments was published in 2015.
VALERIE HORTON
Leeds based writer, Valerie was awarded 'Commended' accolade in the 2016 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Into the Blue' - which was included in the anthology Journey through Uncertainty & other short stories. After a 20 year career in IT, she gained a degree in English and a Diploma in Creative Writing. She continues to develop her craft, with a number of short stories, specialising in tales with a twist.
ROBERT HULL
UK journalist and author, Robert was the overrall was the overrall winner in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for his work 'Last Call' - which is the title story in the anthology Last Call & other short stories. Robert's epic road-trips and expeditions form the basis of travel pieces for the Guardian, the Observer & the Sunday Times newspapers. Robert is currently working on his first short story collection - Lost and Found, and is researching his first novel which will be set in the glory days of British music hall.
SOPHIA JACKSON-GILL
Sophie was a prize-winner in the 2016 Ouen Press Short Story Competition when she was awarded a 'Runner-up' place for her work 'The Land of the Free' - which was included in the anthology Journey through Uncertainty & other short stories. London-based Sophie is an actor, writer & adventurer. Following graduatio from Birmingham School of Acting, Sophia continues to explore different platforms through which storytelling can be delivered.
MYRA KING
Australian author, Myra, was awarded a 'Highly Commended'accolade in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Nothing about Love' - which was included in the anthology Last Call & other short stories. Myra's other work includes a fortnightly feature in a Florda newspaper, articles in the Boston Literary Magazine and a variety of Australian riding magazines. She is also the author of two novels - City Paddock and The Journey of Velvet Brown.
T H KUNZE
Scottish novelist and short fiction writer, T H Kunze was a prize-winner in the 2019 Ouen Press Short Story Competition when he was awarded a 'Runner-up' place for his work 'Walking on Air' - which was included in the anthology Zawadi & other short stories. When not revising his promising third novel, or grooming a growing short story collection, he can be glimpsed shredding guitars like his hopelessly imaginary alter-ego. He calls it research.
GAIL LANDON
UK author, Gail, was awarded a 'Commended'accolade in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Ernest's Redemption' - which was included in the anthology Last Call & other short stories. Following a career as a teacher and gaining an Open University degree, Gail is now focusing on her writing projects - an experienced storyteller, Gail maintains a long-term commitment working with Gypsy, Roman and Traveller communities.
CLAIRE LAWRENCE
Canadian author, Claire, was a prize-winner in the 2015 Ouen Press Short Story Competition when she was awarded a 'Runner-up' place for her work 'God's Dog Day' - which was included in the anthology Last Call & other short stories. A member of Port Moody Writers' Group and the Royal City Literary Arts Society, Claire's winning entry to the Sampad South Asian Arts International writing competition will be published in a book entitled Inspired by Ghandi.
K M LOCKWOOD
Chichester writer, Philippa Francis, writing as K M Lockwood was the overrall winner of the 2017 Ouen Press Short Story Competition for her work 'Tasting Notes' - which was included in the anthology Tasting Notes & other short stories. When not writing Tales from the Garrett and #WritersReviews, which can be found on her website - Phillipa can be found picking up sea-glass and daydreaming.
