Imagine Ghosts Telling Tales in front of Smoky Mirrors by S L Masunda

Synopsis:

This fictional memoir explores a young writer’s quest for literary recognition. Having achieved some success with the help of traditional witchcraft, he embarks on a similar route to support the launch of his second novel. However, the atrocities he commits in the name of ambition become increasingly gruesome.

The story is threaded together with narration from the writer as he switches from past to current thoughts and musings, from memory to current reflection and back again.

A tragedy reveals itself as we are drawn back in time to three key moments in the writer’s life to witness the circumstances, decisions and actions that are seemingly pivotal to his current predicament – always being challenged to seek out redemption for our hero turned killer.

This debut novel from a young Zimbabwean talent explores the ethos and traditions prevalent in modern African society, and particularly issues affecting youth culture, harnassing the power of the marvelous and magical to cloud and then concentrate the mind.
